Robots in the US Army
In the coming year the Government agency at the Ministry of Defense of the United States, which deals with the development of new technology in the U.S. military (DARPA) will spend nearly 3 billion. dollars for the development of new projects.
Much of that money will go for automated technology, including for the creation of some amazing robots. But, as I wrote the technological site Cnet, if new robots resemble those "employed" so far, things can be maddening. And while some of the new military technologies are great and revolutionary, but in the field of Robotics obviously still a lot of work. Here are some of the most impressive, but also the most maddening, development of robots, purchased by the U.S. Army with taxpayers money:
Atlas,the military robot humanoid
We have already envisioned the company Boston Dynamics, which works on projects funded by DARPA. You have seen and Atlas-high around 2.4 m military robot. It is the first really serious and publicly declared attempt to make humanoid army, who sits on two legs.
Altas has the ambitious task to carry out various activities. Of intelligence, through rescue, by design Atlas should be able to lift heavy, passes through awkward terrain, but to open doors. Unfortunately before doing these things, Atlas would have to learn not to fall for this model, which proved to be a challenge.
Robot with rocket launcher
Scientists at Harvard University have created a miniature robot-insect, able to fly along the lines of their biological analogs. The development has taken 12 years of the team, led by Robert Wood, said the University website. The movement of each of the two wings of the RoboBee is managed by a separate electric motor that allows setting the direction and height.
MAARS
Robot Shrewbot represents the Etruscan shrew, which possesses an enviable moustache length. You replace the eyes in the darkness. The robot then yet last year you could have with their help to get around, to detect and bypass obstacles. Now, however, it is the most advanced, such as through your mustache can recreate in your own computer "brain" reasonably accurate map of the area surrounding it. A key role for the new capabilities of the robot plays the program tSLAM (tactile Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), which compiles a map of the surrounding area. And earlier, and now the robot has sensors 18-mustache, equipped with its own power supply and the sensors and mounted on the "glavenvata" of the machine. In moving forward the robot continuously moving his head, reminding of the different smells vdišvaŝo animal. In this way, the Shrewbot combines data from hundreds of thousands of sprikosnoveniâ, hatching a "tactile" map of the surrounding area.
